MCHS seniors Dillon Acker-James, Gabi Tovar, and Maddy Cardoso were this year’s Soroptimist International of Mariposa Scholarship recipients.  Acker-James was awarded the Memorial Scholarship.  This scholarship is awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement and involvement in school and community activities.  Tovar is the 2015 Elinor Rollston Memorial Scholarship recipient.  This scholarship honors deceased Mariposa Charter Club member Elinor Rollston.  It is awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement with a special emphasis on service to the school and community.  MCHS senior Cardoso was awarded the Vocational Scholarship.  The Vocational Scholarship is awarded to a student who plans to fast track his or her career by preparing at a Junior College or vocational or technical school.

Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.  In addition to participating in international projects, the Mariposa Club achieves this mission locally by giving scholarships to graduating seniors, presenting monetary awards to women that are the heads of their households seeking further education, and donating funds and services to organizations such as Ethos Youth Center, Manna House, Mountain Crisis and Heritage House.
