June 2015- SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Frank Bigelow, R-O’Neals, has honored Arthur Bertolero as the 2015 Veteran of the Year for the 5th Assembly District. Bertolero served in the United States Army and is a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 108 in Amador County.
“Art served with distinction in the United States Army and has been an advocate for veterans in our communities for decades,” Assemblyman Bigelow said. “It was an honor to name Art as the 5th District’s Veteran of the Year. He is an amazing example of service and commitment to others and I commend him for all of his accomplishments.”
Bigelow, Bertolero and Bertolero’s wife, Rena attended the eighth annual Veteran of the Year Recognition Luncheon with other veterans and state lawmakers. Veteran of the Year honorees were recognized from all 80 Assembly Districts.
Ensuring that California’s veterans receive the recognition they deserve is an important priority for Assemblyman Bigelow. He has strongly supported legislation that would improve veterans’ access to health care, housing, higher education, job training, and employment opportunities.
Lifelong rancher Frank Bigelow proudly represents the 5th Assembly District, which encompasses Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Madera, Mariposa, Mono, Placer, and Tuolumne counties and includes Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park.
