In an area that continues to be hard hit by the current economic climate, the San Joaquin Valley has an advocate in Root Social Merced. Root Social Merced is a business development initiative aimed at empowering local entrepreneurs and small business owners in Merced County to get online and be heard. Root Social is now expanding it’s business development services to cover Mariposa County. Business development services include low cost online marketing solutions for small businesses and nonprofits. “We are starting small but our goal is to see every local business have a strong online footprint and enjoy the benefits of organic traffic,” said Lori Schiffbauer, Program Manager at Root Social Merced. Lori continued, “We realized early on that social media is only one step in the success of a business’s marketing efforts. Some of our clients did not have a computer let alone a website. So we started working with them and coaching them on ways to help bring credibility to their business.” Initially Root Social Merced was created to encourage local business owners to adopt new technology and increase their online presence utilizing Social Media. Today they offer a wide variety of business development services and coaching to ensure local businesses can keep up and be more competitive in a fast paced and ever changing market.

A small business development program of the United Way of Merced County, Root Social offers a wide range of marketing, consulting, and social media services to small businesses, organizations, and nonprofits. Since 2012, they have worked with over one hundred low or moderate income (LMI) businesses, professionals, entrepreneurs and nonprofits. Work includes designing art for branding, identity, digital media, websites, social media advertising, and environmental outreach. Their services include logo creation, website creation, business cards, brochures, signs, event flyers, and social media campaigns. Root Social also provides technical assistance through business counseling, entrepreneurial workshops, and its wide network of professional resources.
