August 19, 2014 - WASHINGTON, D.C. – As part of its ongoing efforts against proposed federal changes to the definition of “Waters of the United States,” the National Association of Counties (NACo) has released a web video urging counties to take action.

While NACo supports common‐sense environmental protection, expanded federal oversight would create delays in critical work and increase uncertainty, draining local budgets without any proven environmental benefit.

In the video, NACo Executive Director Matthew D. Chase encourages counties to visit NACo’s online resource clearinghouse and urges them to submit comments to the Federal Register. “We need counties to make sure that the comments are overwhelmingly opposing this regulation and, at a minimum, asking for increased clarity from the EPA on some key definitions,” Chase says. “If this goes through, county governments will face increased costs. We will have delayed projects,” Chase continues. “Now is the time for action.”
