July 27, 2015 - The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office is warning all residents about a Telephone Fraud. Scammers are using scrambling devices to change the phone number shown on the caller ID, in some cases showing the Sheriff’s Office phone number 966-3615 or even just showing 911.
The Scammers are identifying themselves as Sheriff’s Office Personnel and using names of current staff members or other governmental agencies, stating the individual called has a warrant out for their arrest and needs to call another phone number immediately or be arrested by law enforcement.
This is a fraud call. These scammers are trying to defraud you of your money. We recommend that you discontinue the call immediately.
We would like to remind everyone not to give personal information out over the phone.
