July 31, 2015 - FRESNO – Assemblyman Jim Patterson (R-Fresno) has signed a letter to California State Attorney General Kamala Harris requesting a special investigation into Planned Parenthood’s possible harvesting and selling of body parts from aborted babies for money.

The Attorney General’s office last Friday agreed to investigate whether the nonprofit organization that videotaped Planned Parenthood officials broke any laws, however there was no mention of any inquest into the possible illegal sales of body parts discussed in the videos.

“To investigate the Center for Medical Progress for possible wrong-doing, but ignore the possibility that Planned Parenthood is selling body parts, would be wickedly irresponsible and selective. It is our hope that AG Harris will do what is morally right in this situation and revoke Planned Parenthood’s free pass to dismember babies for cash.”

The letter to AG Harris contained the following questions:

  • Does California have laws or rules regulating the buying and selling of the body parts of unborn children, and if so are Planned Parenthood clinics in compliance?
  • If Planned Parenthood clinics charge fees for unborn babies hearts, livers, lungs, and other body parts, is this a part of regulated commerce in this state?
  • Are there limitations regarding who can buy these body parts and what they can be used for?
  • Are mothers required to sign consent forms before parts of their unborn babies can be sold or given to interested companies, and if so, are these rules being followed?
  • Is Planned Parenthood doing illegal Partial-Birth Abortion procedures or altering their abortion methods in order to not damage body parts for interested buyers?
Assemblyman Patterson (R-Fresno) represents the 23rd Assembly District in the California Legislature, which includes communities in Fresno and Tulare County.
