August 3, 2015 - Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the Republican bill to defund Planned Parenthood:
Dianne Feinstein
“Today’s misguided effort to defund Planned Parenthood does not reflect the priorities of the American people, who strongly support greater access to health care. Coupled with significant cuts to women’s health programs in this year’s appropriations bill, Republicans have sent a clear message that women’s health is not a priority.

“Planned Parenthood is the primary health care provider for millions of American women, and nearly 80 percent of its patients are low-income. Many live in communities with few options to access basic health care services like breast exams, cervical cancer screenings and contraception. If Planned Parenthood closed its doors, 13 of California’s 58 counties would not have a single family planning clinic for low-income patients.

“Planned Parenthood has been under near-constant attack since its founding in 1916. The goal of these attacks is clear—restrict women’s ability to make their own health care decisions. The Senate stood up for women by rejecting this bill.”
