August 25, 2015 - On Monday evening, August 24, 2015 the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors held a Public Hearing to receive comments from the public regarding the Fiscal Year 2015-2016 Final Budget.

The meeting was scheduled to begin at 6:00 P.M. and lasted for 17 minutes while four members of the public spoke before the Board.

Business owner Kris Casto said we need to focus on economic development as a top priority as the county population is shrinking. She is for funding tourism.

Resident Ruth Sellers said $27,000 was allotted for the Mariposa Museum and History Center and then it was removed. She said the museum is important to Mariposa and needs help. Nothing is in the budget for the Mariposa County Historic Courthouse and it is falling apart, but once again we will fund tourism with $500,000. Put some money where it needs to be put. It is time tourism needs to look at the BID tax on themselves and not the General Fund.

David Mecchi, Board President of the Mariposa County Resource Conservation District said they are experiencing budget shortfalls due to lack of grant funding. They are looking for financial assistance from the county.

Michael Crowley co-owner of Chocolate Soup and a member of Concerned Citizens of Mariposa, is for diversified economic development. The Concerned Citizens of Mariposa is hoping for more public involvement and is participating in the Sheriff's Ambassador Kick-Off to provide a friendly face downtown. The Concerned Citizens of Mariposa objective is not to be adversarial but to be complimentary to all the Board actions and agencies involved in addressing the needs of the community.
