FlagdropDick Hutchinson VFW Post 6042

Many Americans are not aware of how to dispose of unserviceable American flag properly. All American flags, any size, that are torn, faded or unserviceable are disposed of through a process in Mariposa by the VFW, American Legion and our local Boy Scouts. The first step in disposing an unserviceable American Flag is to take the flag and place it in the white container, shown in the photo above, in the Visitors Center/Chamber parking lot. VFW Post 6042 collects American flags all year. The VFW turns the unserviceable flags over to American Legion Post 567. The American Legion along with our local Boy Scouts conduct Disposal of Unserviceable Flag Ceremony on June 14 Flag Day, each year. This ceremony creates a particularly dignified and solemn occasion for the disposal of unserviceable American Flags. This ceremony in Mariposa is performed at the Fairground in Gold Bowl in front of the grand stands.

Thank you Mariposa for helping to dispose of unserviceable American Flags properly.
