April 20, 2023 - In introducing new legislation, Rep. Josh Harder accused utilities of price hikes following the severe winter storms.

PGE logoHere are the facts. PG&E does not control the market prices for gas and electricity, and like other utilities, does not mark up the cost of gas and electricity we purchase on behalf of our customers.

Natural gas market prices in California in January were about five times higher than the national average. The reasons for this included increased natural gas demand due to colder than normal temperatures, lower West Coast gas storage inventory, and interstate pipeline delivery constraints.

Governor Newsom called for a federal investigation into the higher prices, a move PG&E supports.

PG&E worked hard to keep customers informed, offer ways to manage energy use and bills, and provide income-qualified assistance, and we will continue to support and advocate for our customers.
