“In the midst of so much discussion about the environment, I was pleased to hear the Governor address the drought. I urge the Governor to prioritize construction of new water storage as a way to prevent drought in the future. We need to invest in infrastructure that will capture and store rainwater.”

“I also urge the Governor to resist any attempts to extend the Prop. 30 tax increases. He presented these tax increases to voters as a temporary measure to prevent cuts to education. Unfortunately, much of this money never made it to the rural classrooms. By fully funding rural schools, we can ensure a quality education for all students.”

“I look forward to working with the Governor, and my colleagues in the Legislature, to implement policies that benefit Californians, and that help build a great future for our state. We must work together to truly provide solutions for California.”
Lifelong rancher Frank Bigelow proudly represents the 5th Assembly District, which encompasses Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Madera, Mariposa, Mono, Placer, and Tuolumne counties and includes Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park.

Kristin Olsen Responds to Governor Brown’s State of the State

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Kristin Olsen, (R-Modesto), issued a statement today following Governor Jerry Brown’s State of the State address:

“While I am pleased with the State’s overall economic recovery, it is important to note that much of that progress has been made in the Bay Area and in coastal cities.  kristin olsen californiaThe Central Valley and other inland communities still suffer from high unemployment rates - which have only been exacerbated by the drought.  We need leaders committed to bridging the growing divide between inland and coastal communities, so that Californians in every region of the state can benefit from economic growth and vitality.

“From our classrooms to our roadways, we have to implement policies that will make California worthy of investment in the long-term.  Continuing to strengthen the state’s Rainy Day Fund, streamlining regulatory barriers to project completion, and increasing our water supply will send a strong message that California is ready for business.  We must also renew our commitment to our kids and pass reforms that will give every child in every community access to an education that prepares them for the jobs of the future.

“I am committed to working alongside Governor Brown and my legislative colleagues to improve our state’s economic and education outcomes, so that we can begin to ensure long-term and meaningful employment for every Californian – now and well into the future.”
