Final Spring Speaker Series with Robert Oakley: The Great Flood of 1862
On Saturday, June 4th, 2016 at 4 p.m. at the IOOF building in Coulterville, the Northern Mariposa County History Center’s final presentation in this year’s Spring Speaker Series will be conducted by Robert Oakley.  He will share his research and knowledge about the Great Flood of 1862.  The flood, which occurred just 12 years after the California gold rush began, wiped out many mining camps and towns up and down the gold country and flooded the entire Central Valley as well as Southern California.  An unprecedented natural calamity, this “1000 year event” destroyed lives and property throughout California, literally bankrupting the State.  It remains the largest recorded flood in the recorded history of California, with nearly 40 days of rain.  This is a free presentation, although contributions to the History Center are always welcome.  The IOOF building, one of our best-preserved historic buildings in historic Coulterville is located at 5030 Main Street.

June Breakfast
Come enjoy eggs cooked to order, all-you-can-eat pancakes, ham or sausage and fruit at the NMCHC Community Breakfast on Sunday June 12th.  Breakfast remains a great value at just $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for children and $15.00 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 children).  The Old School House, at the corner of Cemetery Street and Broadway in Coulterville is easy to find, has ample parking and will be open from 8 to 11 a.m.  Fun raffle prizes and a free breakfast drawing every month.  Help out at this monthly fundraiser.  We need a few regular helpers on clean-up!  If you can spare two hours a month, between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon, on the 2nd Sunday on every month, we'd sure appreciate it.  Leave a message at the museum with your contact information, 209-878-3015.
