Julia Parker will be at the Mariposa Museum and History Center on Saturday, June 4th, 2016 at 2:00 PM, giving a talk and demonstration of her basket making.
Julia Parker is known nationwide for her basket making, carrying on the traditions of her Kashaya Pomo, Miwok and Paiute heritage. For many years she was a focal point of the Visitor’s Center in Yosemite National Park, sitting, making her baskets and telling stories to any who cared to stop and show an interest in what she was doing.
Julia retired from the Park this last year but her many talking and demonstration engagements keep her busy. We feel very blessed and fortunate to have Julia take time and offer to do this afternoon event in her support of the Mariposa Museum and History Center.
She will be starting her time on Saturday with a traditional prayer and some storytelling. She will then talk about her basket making, giving a demonstration of her gift. This promises to be a standing room only event so come early and step back into a time of legend as Julia shares with us some of the wonder of her heritage and traditions.
