June 22, 2016 -  The Tuolumne County Sheriff Department reminds everyone July 4th, Independence Day is quickly approaching.

fireworks illegal in tuolumne countyWe would like to remind everyone that it is illegal to possess, sell or use any kind of fireworks in Tuolumne County.

This is a violation of the county ordinance resulting in a citation or arrest and fine starting at $250. The transportation of fireworks to Tuolumne County also nets charges for doing so.

Additionally you could be held liable for any injury to persons or damage to property in violation of this ordinance.

Permits must be obtained for public display events. During these events, fire personnel are standing by so they may respond quickly in the event of an emergency.

This year the only scheduled event will be held at Pine Mountain Lake on July 2nd at sundown. The Lake Don Pedro fireworks show will not be taking place this year.

As many of you know, we are in the midst of fire season and have seen the devastation that can be caused by wildfires. Please take care and abide by these laws and regulations that keep our homes and communities safe.

Wishing everyone a fun and safe 4th of July.
