2015-16 Firewood Distribution Season
The Mariposa County Department of Community Services Senior Firewood season had officially concluded as of May 20, 2016. We’ve estimated approximately 773 loads of firewood were distributed in South Mariposa County. We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely say “THANK YOU” to the following entities and individuals for their valuable contribution in making the Firewood Distribution Program of 2015-16 an astounding success:
· CALFIRE Mt. Bullion Camp crews for bringing wood down to Mariposa and Greeley Hill from the higher elevations. The supervised crews cut, split, and stacked firewood year-round for north and south county distribution when not out working the fire lines;
· Weekly supervised CALFIRE Mt. Bullion crews for loading firewood into senior adults’ pickup trucks or small trailers from October through May; we’ve estimated approximately 166 cords of firewood were distributed this past season. It was a pleasure to partner with Rich Drozen, Division Chief, Mariposa Division CALFIRE, in the firewood distribution program again this year!
· Mariposa County Department of Human Services for their referrals of senior and non-senior adults & families who were in need of firewood;
· Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office for SCOPE volunteers Roy Dunston and Nick Nasarow. Roy was the lead contact for North County, distributing well over 100 cords of firewood to deserving seniors and many families in need and Nick facilitated individuals in the newly developed self-loading firewood program of approximately 22 cords of firewood program in South County Mariposa;
· And finally, “thank you” to Merlin Jones, Supervisor District II, who generously donated a substantial amount of firewood for North County Mariposa residents.
Without the help from the county entities and individuals listed above, this past firewood distribution season clearly would not have happened. Again, “THANK YOU” for your contribution to our community, all involved had made a significant effect in the well-being of an individual and/or family this last winter!
