Fire in El Portal Near Yosemite National Park on Monday, July 28, 2014

El Portal Fire Re-Entry Information: Old El Portal Residence Only
7/29/14 9:00 a.m.
Resident check in at Community Hall

El Portal Fire Re-Entry will begin 7/29/14 at 9:00 a.m. for the residence of Old El Portal.
Residence will need to check in at the Community Hall prior to returning to their homes.


Residence in the area known as "Foresta" are still under an active evacuation order.

Beginning at 9:00 am 7/29/2014 Road Closures:

Foresta Rd at Hwy 140 will open to Residence only 7/29/2017 9:00 am

Crane Creek at Hwy 140 will open to Residence only 7/29/2014 9:00 am

Hwy 120 "Big Oak Flat" Rd is closed from Crane Flat to Hwy 140


Red Cross has opened a resource center located at the New Life Christian Church, 5089 Cole Rd  Mariposa.
They are no longer located at the Tenaya Lodge in Fish Camp.

El Portal Fire Evacuation Update

El Portal Fire I/C is allowing Sheriff to re-populate Old El Portal tomorrow morning starting at 9:00 a.m.

Sheriff will handle check-in at the Community Center on Foresta Road.

Sheriff will continue security patrols for the next couple days.

The community of Foresta continues to remain evacuated due to fire activity.

There is bear activity in upper Foresta Road area of Old El Portal that officials are attempting to contain.

7:00 P.M. Incident Update

El Portal Fire, CA-YNP-0083 Yosemite National Park, Mariposa Co.

Location: Near Highway 140 and community of El Portal,

FRA
CIIMT 5 (Joseph).
2,700 Acres, 5% contained.
Continued closure of Big Oak Flat Road.
Small runs in lighter fuels in lower elevations. Active backing and flanking in some locations.
Merced Grove of Giant Sequoias within Yosemite National Park still threatened.
Structure defense and evacuations of communities of El Portal and Foresta continue.
A public meeting will be held in El Portal this evening with an expected
attendance of 300 residents including those under evacuations.

Yosemite Fire Update July 28, 2014 


El Portal Fire: A community briefing is scheduled for 6pm, tonight at the El Portal Elementary School. The current fire conditions will be presented.

As of this morning the fire is at approximately 2,600 acres, with 5% containment.

Evacuations are still in effect.

This fire has been fast moving and there has been incredible firefighting work done to protect employees, residents and the park. The fire is on both National Park Lands and Stanislaus National Forest. Joint Unified Command has been established.• As with any incident in our park, firefighter and public safety is our number one priority. We appreciate everyone’s assistance and concern.

The incident is under investigation.•

The Dark Hole and El Portal Fires will be managed by the California Interagency Incident Management Team 5, a Type 1 team for efficiency. The Dark Hole is approximately 585 acres and was started by lighting.

Structures are threatened and there has been one structure lost in Foresta.

Strike teams have been stationed at residences to protect these facilities.

Crane Flat and Yosemite Creek Campgrounds have been closed.

Bridalveil Campground is being used for fire operations.

The Big Oak Flat Road is closed between Crane Flat south to the Highway 140 Junction. This is a hard closure until further notice for the public, employees and residents.

Tioga Pass Road, Hwy 41 and Hwy 140 remain open.

Over 700 fire resources have been assigned.

Future fire updates for the El Portal Fire will provided by the Incident Management Team, working closely with park management.
