July 23, 2016 - CLOVIS, Calif. -  The Spring Fire, naturally ignited by lightning in early July, and discovered on July 13, 2016, has burned 174 acres of the Ansel Adams Wilderness near Lake Edison on the Sierra National Forest.

The fire is currently 85% contained, and though it is expected to produce minimal smoke for the next two to three weeks, it is not expected to grow in size.

Forest visitors should contact Sierra National Forest for updates about conditions and trail closures.

Rationale influencing the choice of options to respond to the Spring Fire included its location, timing, associated risks, potential resource benefits and observed fire behavior.

Mindful of the critical role that fire plays in maintaining a resilient forest ecosystem, as with all fires on the Sierra, the full range of options were analyzed, and updated as the fire progressed until conditions warranted an active suppression action. (http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd490826.pdf).
