The holiday season is fast approaching and with it comes an additional 1 million tons of waste discarded by Americans per week in the period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.  Food waste, alone, triples during that time.

Making the holidays more eco-friendly, will be the theme of a free workshop at the Mariposa Library on Saturday, October 15 at 10 a.m. The workshop, which is part of the Library’s new Green S.T.E.A.M. Makerspace program (see article link below), will be presented by Karen Dusek, Makerspace coordinator and the former County Recycling Coordinator.

Following the presentation, participants will have an opportunity to make upcycled gift bags, tree ornaments, table decorations and other holiday items.

A workshop for children ages 5-12 will be held in the children’s room, also at 10 a.m., with age-appropriate activities related to the green holiday theme.

Space is limited and registration is required. Please call 209-966-2140, email karen.dusek@mariposalibrary.org, or sign up at the Library by 5 p.m. Friday, October 14 to reserve a place.
