October 23, 2016 - With an early season weather event in the Sierra-Nevada high country that produced heavy rainfall during the second week of October, Highway 120 (Tioga Pass) was closed caltrans district 9 blowing up rocksdue to boulders and rocks on the road.

Caltrans District 9 Maintenance Crews removed around ten boulders using explosives from the roadway of Highway 120 on October 19, 2016.

Rock Removal on Tioga Pass

Mono County - State Route 120 Tioga Pass will remain closed overnight. Rocks continue to fall and crews are working as fast as possible to clear the road. Please take a look at the attached video to see a couple of the rocks that had to be removed today!
