Cooper’s Type 2 IMT team was in briefed tonight at 1600.

Rock Creek and Fish Creek Campgrounds have been evacuated.

Fire is in inaccessible terrain causing suppression challenges.

Road Closures: 10S18 Rd- the section of road between Ross Cabin and Grizzly Cutoff Rd.

Service power lines have been damaged and more are threatened.

Power lines in the area have been deactivated.


Incident Overview 3:00 P.M.

The French Incident was reported by Shuteye Pk. Lookout at approximately 0545 today.

The fire is burning in the area between Rock Creek and Fish Creek campgrounds, in the San Joaquin River drainage.Currently the fire is approximately 500 acres, and is burning in steep rugged terrain.

Mark Smith, Assistant District Fire Management Officer is currently the Incident Commander. A Type II team (David Cooper) has been ordered as well as aircraft; crews and equipment.

Currently there are four air tankers, two type one helitack, two type 2 helicopters, two air attack and one lead plane. A type 1 strike team from Cal Fire, two type 2 Forest Service crews, and a Second type 1 strike team has also been ordered. Three orders for type 1 hand crews, six engines, one dozer, one water tender, one dozer are en route. Also two type 3 strike engines have been ordered.

Fish Creek and Rock Creek campgrounds have been evacuated.

It is being advised not to use the Minarets Rd. (4S81, Scenic Byway) from North Fork, CA.

Road Closures - Motorists are urged to avoid this area- Southern Closure 4S81 at Ross Cabin- Northern Closure below Grizzly Road- Arnold Meadow Cabin; owners to travel Beasore to Grizzly to get to their cabin- Campgrounds Closed are Fish, Rock and Soda they have been evacuated and CLM is aware of the evacuation and closure.

Rock Creek Campground is located close to Mammoth Pool Reservoir near the Ansel Adams Wilderness and provides more recreational activities, including fishing, boating and hiking. This area is known for its jagged peaks, including 13,157-foot Mt. Ritter, and numerous lakes and streams.
