Sierra Foothill Charter School has a spectacular new mural hanging in its Learning Garden.
The mural was a collaboration between students and local artist Cate Cannon. Students drew pictures and wrote descriptions of things they wanted included on the mural. Cannon took their ideas and used them as inspiration, combining as much as possible onto the mural.
Cannon volunteered many hours at the end of the school year and over the summer painting the mural.
Here, the mural begins to take shape, with the students' inspirational drawings hanging above it.
The mural now brightens a wall in the garden, where students can see it daily, but especially during their weekly garden rotations. Student time in the garden integrates math, science, writing and other curricular topics with act of growing vegetables.
The garden provides great lessons, and now includes a wonderful mural to further delight and inspire students.
SFCS extends a big "thank you" to Cate Cannon.
