In some circles March 14 is also known as 3.14. Sierra Foothill Charter School took advantage of this play on numbers to celebrate Pi, the never-changing ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, approximated as 3.14159 (but the number is irrational which means it goes on and on and on infinitely).

Continuing an annual tradition at SFCS, Andrea Contreras' seventh and eighth graders put together math-related games and held a math carnival for their schoolmates and themselves. At each station, students performed some form of age-appropriate math, played a fun game, and  then were given a mark on their special card.
SFCS 368Emilee Cordero plays a weight estimating game with Tucker Knauf as Ares Goodman looks on.
SFCS 359Elle Sexton solves the equation...
SFCS 360... then throws a wet sponge at a brave volunteer's face!
SFCS 410Rosy Neogy answered a math problem correctly and then tried her hand at bowling.

Other games included golf putting, tossing bean bags through cardboard cut outs of mouths (feeding pie holes), estimating lengths of body parts and then measuring them, graphing birth months and days on a giant graph students could walk on, fishing using magnets, and coloring math related pictures. Students had a great time playing and improving their math skills at the same time.
SFCS 414After five marks, students were awarded with a piece of pie. (Limit 2 to ensure no tummy aches.) Here, Madison Michael gets her first piece of pie.

Pies for this extra special sweet event were donated by Bernadette Davis, Summer Vaziralli, Paul's Place in Merced, Jantz Cafe & Bakery in Merced, Mara Goodman, and Talia Foster donated a dairy free pie.
