mg pr save waterGov. Jerry Brown has declared the drought over – for now -- except for Fresno, Kings, Tulare, and Tuolumne counties. The latest snowpack numbers showed the Central Sierra is at 168 percent of “normal.”

But that’s no reason to slack off on the water-saving strategies you’ve developed.

To help you keep conserving, the Mariposa Master Gardeners is offering a free workshop Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors’ chambers, 5100 Bullion St., Mariposa. To register, call (209) 966-2417 or go online at cemariposa.ucanr.edu.

Dave Hackney and Karol Autrand-Rocha of Merced Master Gardeners, and Ferol Conklin of Mariposa Master Gardeners will cover how you can conserve water with smart use of modern irrigation systems and how you can manage water on your property.

Hackney and Autrand-Rocha will discuss and demonstrate irrigation systems, with emphasis on innovation and design of drip systems. Electronic devices, such as a cell phone, can help you keep tabs on the amount of water you use. They’ll also talk about drip system design.

Conklin’s focus will be keeping your water where you want it on your property with such things as berms (low mounds of different shapes) and basins. She will show you how to design and build these water-savers and what to plant in them. There will be material to take home.
