Mariposa’s Belle the Balloon-a-Twister

Belle-Balloon-aTwister

Mariposa’s Belle the Balloon-a-Twister provided the centerpieces for the National Wildlife Federation’s donor event at the Ahwahnee Hotel on November 2nd 2011. She also created custom balloon sculptures for the grateful guests at the pre-dinner reception. Ranger Rick also joined in the fun!

Belle is a home schooled 12-year-old and has been twisting balloons for a little more than a year. She is mostly self-taught. She received a bit of instruction from Becky, the professional balloon artist at the Mariposa County Fair, and then used books and videos from the library and Internet to further her skills. Many creations she designs herself, such as the raccoon for the National Wildlife Federation event.

Belle also twists many creations other than animals, including flowers, hats, aliens, swords, fairies, brides, and cartoon characters. Belle takes requests and creates things “on the spot” that she has never made before. She is constantly adding to her repertoire.

Belle has been working steadily since June. She works events (such as the Tomato Fest) and private parties (such as birthdays). She also creates balloons for special orders (such as weddings). She has performed charity work for the Ewing Wing and Manna House and gives 10% of all her earnings to various causes.

Her other interests include playing the piano, exploring outdoors, and enjoying animals of all kinds....balloon, stuffed, and real!
