Supervisor Cann mentions that TOT (Bed Tax) is up about $300,000 year over year and that the other Gateways are down substantially. Supervisor Cann mentions EDC allocating $5,000 for Prop. 84 Grant assistance for a $5,000,000 grant for a gymnasium on the "Field of Dreams" property, the EDC said we have a 75% chance for the grant and other items.Historic Sites and Records Preservation Commission Meeting on the Garber Houses - August 8, 2011 (With Audio)The Commission is discussing the demolition of the Garber houses. Deputy Planning Director Sarah Williams mentioned that Planning Dept. received the demo permits on June 16, 2011 to demolish three structures. All three structures are contributing structures to the National Registry District. Two of the structures are locally significant. Sarah mentioned that if one of four findings can be made the structures may be demolished. Before a demolition permit is issued a CEQA process will be made. YARTS Has Record Passengers For July - Surpass 12, 000 Most In 11 Year HistoryRecommended Budget for Fiscal Year 2011-12 by Rick Benson, County Administrative Officer to the Mariposa County Board of SupervisorsThe recommendation includes furloughs for most County employees. It also includes a limited number of layoffs. With the recommended staff reductions it will not be possible to maintain services at the customary level. The budget is balanced and does not rely on the use of funds set aside in prior years in order to fulfill the general goals of the County. Mariposa County Board of Supervisors (BOS) Budget Talks Highlights for Thursday, August 18, 2011 on the 2011-2012 BudgetSupervisor Cann mentioned that revenue in the county is up. TOT came in around $300K more that last year. Sales Taxes are also up. Secured Property Taxes are down about $87K along with Supplemental, Unsecured and Delinquent taxes. Supervisor Allen is concerned about employees retiring then are rehired for a period of time but then can collect unemployment and that raises the amount of money the county has to pay to unemployment. So far it does not look like furloughs are going to happen, but things can change. Supervisor Allen mentioned that it is his goal for the Tuesday meeting to not have any furloughs. It looks like multiple employees will be let go and positions that are currently not filled may stay that way, all put on the white board.
Tuesday, August 23, 2011 Mariposa County Budget Talks HighlightsAs the budget talks wrapped up on Tuesday the Board of Supervisors (BOS) mentioned that an RFP (Going out to bid on a $150,000 contract) will be issued for bidding on the Mariposa Visitors Center and the Coulterville Visitors Center. These will be two separate RFP's. No Furloughs will be enacted. The Arts Council, Yosemite Renaissance, North Side History Center were all funded. Although Supervisor Stetson was for funding the $5,000 to the Rural Media Arts it failed to win support of the rest of the BOS. $30,000 was approved for the Townsend Group and $6,000 for the eCivis software program.
