Growers Are Needed For The Mariposa Tomato Fest This September
Write it down on your calendars: The Mariposa Tomato Fest will be held September 29 & 30, 2012. At last year’s event, we had 25 varieties of Mariposa-grown heirloom tomatoes displayed for tastings. Many found it amazing and a real eye-opener for most as to the many varieties and flavors of heirloom tomatoes available right here in Mariposa. We had a very successful event last year and we want to make it even better this year.
We Are Looking For Heirloom Tomato And Heirloom Pumpkin Growers!
To help you get started, the Mariposa County Master Gardeners Association will be hosting a free public workshop, “So, you think you want a spring vegetable garden in Mariposa...Where do you start?”, on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Board of Supervisors’ Chambers, 5100 Bullion St., Mariposa. Participants are strongly encouraged to register for the workshop in order to assure adequate handout materials. This can be done by calling (209) 966-2417.
Once you are armed with information on how to get started, you need to find seeds and/or plants. We have excellent local resources. One is Gardener’s Eden Nursery: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , (209) 966-6706. Contact the Master Gardeners for further information.
If You Grow Them, We Will Buy Them!
We will buy your heirloom tomatoes for $1.00/lb. for the event. Any tomatoes left over at the end of the event will be auctioned off as a fund-raiser for the Tomato Fest. We will buy your heirloom pumpkins for $0.25/lb. for the event. The pumpkins will be sold at the event as a fund-raiser for the Tomato Fest. Let’s show everyone that Mariposa County can grow the best tomatoes and pumpkins around.
