The exciting culmination of the children’s study of forest animals at Kiwanis Preschool was a visit from forest ranger Sharon Miyako. She visited the classroom to talk to the children about how forest rangers help protect our environment and wildlife. Ranger Sharon is from the Yosemite office of Education. The children sat in rapt attention as she used puppets and explained what animals need to live; water, food and shelter. The children were able to have the hands-on experience of feeling animal pelts, and seeing animal skulls.
Ranger Sharon spoke to them about animal characteristics such as how high the mountain lion could jump and how quickly bears can climb a pine tree. She gave the children safety tips about animals and being out in nature. The children had a wonderful experience and received a Junior Ranger Badge for participating in the program.
Mariposa Kiwanis Preschool Academy is located at 5991 Darrah Road (at the corner of Darrah and Triangle). Kiwanis Preschool serves children 2 to 5 years of age and is now accepting applications for Spring and Fall, 2012 registration.
