The second annual Tour de Habitat event is coming this Sunday, February 5, 2012

The second annual Tour de Habitat event is coming soon! Last year, this event was the largest fund raiser ever for Habitat for Humanity of Mariposa County. The organizers, Charlotte and Earl Heitzmann and Tom Medema, hope to surpass the $10,000 that the event brought in last year. Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to build simple, decent and affordable homes here and to provide assistance in home maintenance to low-income homeowners through its newly-implemented program, A Brush With Kindness, The first Habitat home was completed and dedicated in August of 2011, and payments by the new homeowner on that mortgage will help to build future homes.

Tour de Habitat, the stationary bike-a-thon, will be on February 11 from 1:00-6:00 pm at New Life Christian Fellowship on Cole Road. Come join the fun on that Saturday afternoon! Participants will ride a bike for only 15 minutes each on teams of six. For those more avid bikers, the 50-mile road ride will be held on Feb. 5 at 11:00 and will begin and end at 5092 Smith Road in Mariposa, taking the scenic Bear Valley/Hornitos route.

We encourage interested individuals or businesses to form a team of six to raise a minimum of $300.00 per team or simply show up and donate to the event.
