Wildflower season is here! Wildflower enthusiasts can educate themselves and at the same time support the Upper Merced River Watershed Council’s work in protecting these native plants and other natural features in the river canyon.
The Council’s “WILDFLOWERS OF THE UPPER MERCED RIVER CANYON” is an easy-to-use guide to the spring display of vibrant color now unfolding on the hillsides in Mariposa County. The pocket-sized brochure provides clear, colorful photos and brief descriptions of the wildflowers one is likely to see in the Mariposa County foothills: the demure and delicate Foothill Shooting Star, the dramatic Mariposa Lily, the stately Chinese Houses and over 30 others.
Local photographer, botanist, and Watershed Council volunteer Vern Gersh compiled and published the guide. It is for sale at the Watershed Office, El Portal Market, High Country Health Food & Cafe, Mariposa Shipping, Mariposa County Visitor Center, Pioneer Market, and Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort. All earnings from the guide support the nonprofit Upper Merced River Watershed Council’s work in protecting our priceless natural resources.
