Senator Tom Berryhill - Democrats Block Pension Reform
June 21, 2012 - Efforts by Senate Republicans to bring the Governor’s 12 point pension plan before the legislature for a vote were blocked yet again by Senate Democrats. The legislation has been blocked at every turn, with Democrats refusing to hear the bills in committee or on the Senate floor.
“The public has made it clear, in no uncertain terms that they expect the legislature to pass a meaningful pension plan to reform a system that is literally bankrupting our local cities,” said Berryhill. “Unfortunately Democrats prefer to listen to the special interests who pay for their elections rather than the public they represent.”
The legislature has until June 28th to pass the Governor’s pension plan in time to place it on the November 6th ballot for a vote of the public.
Senator Berryhill represents Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne Counties.
