Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands Legislative Hearing on H.R. 3640, Yosemite National Park purchasing 18 acres in Mariposa (With Video)

Up-date: July 3, 2012: From NPS: On June 28th, the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands (Bishop) held a hearing on the following bills of interest to the National Park Service. The Department’s witness was Victor Knox, Associate Director, Park Planning, Facilities and Lands: H.R. 3640 (Denham, R-CA-19), to authorize the Secretary of the Interior to acquire not more than 18 acres of land and interests in land in Mariposa, California, and for other purposes.  The land would be administered as part of Yosemite National Park and used for administrative and visitor facilities.  The Department supports the bill.


On Thursday, June 28, 2012  the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands held a legislative hearing on H.R. 3640, a bill introduced by U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) to provide for improved access and visitor services at Yosemite National Park, by authorizing the Secretary of the Interior to acquire not more than 18 acres of land and interests in land in Mariposa, California, and for other purposes.

The bill is then discussed more fully at around the two hour and five minute mark where we hear testimony from Victor Knox, Associate Director for Park Planning, Facilities and Lands, National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior. Also testimony from Kevin Cann, Mariposa County Supervisor, Ronika Johnson, a resident of Mariposa County, Congressman Tom McClintock and Congressman John Garamendi.
