The newest attorney hired by the Merced County District Attorney’s office has a couple of notable distinctions on his resume. Matt Creeger is a member of the first graduating class of UC Merced and is the first UC Merced alumnus hired as a prosecutor by the District Attorney’s office.
Creeger, 29, came to UC Merced in 2005 from Saddleback Junior College in Orange County. A native of Mission Viejo, CA, he came to Merced with the hope of contributing to the new UC campus. He was the first elected External Vice President of the UC Merced student government and was a columnist for the student newspaper, the Prodigy. Creeger also played on the UC Merced baseball team, the school’s first intercollegiate sports team.
He began working as an intern in the District Attorney’s office in 2007 and would continue working throughout his tenure at UC Merced. Following his acceptance to Syracuse Law School in 2008, Creeger came back to Merced each summer and back to the District Attorney’s office.
"I've been working towards this goal for a long time and am very excited to have reached this point. There's more hard work on the horizon but I'm happy to serve this community that has become my home."
“We are beyond proud of Matt,” said District Attorney Larry D. Morse II. “Matt has been like a family member to many of us, including Judges Dave Moranda and Mark Bacciarini while they were members of this office. Matt is one of the most fundamentally decent and honorable young men we know and it is our great pleasure to have him join this office as a prosecutor,” Morse said.
There was a ceremony for Matt’s swearing-in by Judge Moranda on Friday, June 7, 2013 in the courtroom at the Merced County Courthouse Museum.
