Cooler today by a degree or two from Wednesday's high temp of 88 degrees at the SST Weather Station. Yosemite Valley and the higher elevations have a chance of showers and T-Storms for later today and then again on Friday. The weekend is looking sunny and toasty as the high temps will range from 96 to 97 degrees.The National Weather Service has issued a couple of Special Weather Statements.

Highway Delays: State Route 49 From Silva Road/ Indian Peak Road To Allred Road In Mariposa County
Mariposa County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be working on State Route 49 from Silva Road/ Indian Peak Road to Allred Road. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible. This work is scheduled on Monday, June 11, 2012, to Friday, June 15, 2012 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. the road will be intermittently closed and subject to delays of up to 15 minutes.

A fire started in Mariposa County today, June 12, 2012 at 12:45 p.m.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The location of the fire is in the area of Mount Gaines Road and Hornitos Road, Northwest of Catheys Valley, near the community of Hornitos.  As of 7:00 a.m. the fire containment is at 1,667 acres with 75% containment.

Shasta Historical Society Efforts Keep Shasta State Historic Park Off Closure List
"We are honored to be part of this process. Our mission is to collect, preserve, promote and communicate the history of Shasta County," said society president Dave Scott. "We are already shifting our goal to now be open three days per week as opposed to the two days (this agreement provides). Furthermore, we have every expectation of being able to provide funds of at least $40,000 for each of the next three years."

...Personal income taxes fell $14 million below (-0.5 percent) projections, with sales taxes also falling $106.3 million (-3.7 percent). Leroy Radanovich's Mariposa Life - California State Mining and Mineral Museum Exhibit And Other Items
An interview given to another news outlet indicates that the Mineral Museum would not leave Mariposa if only some benefactor would come up with $180,000 to cover the State employees and various costs.  The California State Mining and Mineral Association offered to operate the Museum using skilled volunteers at no cost to the cash strapped state, until such time when the State got their act together.
