Manuela Aostri Ortiz was born on May 14, 1927 in Riano, Spain to Angel Aostri Lopez and Candida Soto Alonzo. Manuela lived in Spain until she married Carlos Ortiz and came to America in 1948. The couple settled in Hornitos, CA where they owned and operated the Plaza Bar for over 60 years.

Manuela was fun-loving and loved the bar and her customers. She was a wonderful gardener and cook and enjoyed feeding people. Manuela was an honorary member of the Hornitos Patrons Club and a dedicated member of the Hornitos Community.

Manuela OrtizOne of her proudest achievements was becoming an American citizen. The Plaza Bar, now owned by her son Richie, was a stopover for people from all over the world, whether it be a bullfighter from Spain or a bicyclist from Australia. Manuela's "Ole'" was a phrase heard by many.

Manuela and Carlos had three children, Carlos "Poncho," Richard "Richie," and Mary Louise "LuLu." Her husband Carlos passed away in 1978 and her daughter Mary in 2016. She is survived by her sons Carlos (Delores) and Richard. Manuela left 4 grandchildren, Derrek (Eva) Dean, Myshel (Jarrod) Pimentel, Keri Ortiz, and Melisa Hernandez. She also has 5 great grandchildren, Hudson and Reese (Myshel), Kamille and Mackenna (Derrek), and Emily (Melisa). Manuela was a bright light who will be missed by many, especially her family.

Graveside services will be on Saturday, January 27th at 11:00 A.M. at the Saint Catherine's Cemetery in Hornitos. Immediately after the services there will be a gathering in the Stag Hall on Bear Valley Road in Hornitos.
