August 4, 2014 Washington—Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on the death of Jim Brady:

“Jim Brady was a wonderful man, dedicated public servant and leading advocate for gun safety laws. My heart goes out to Sarah Brady and Jim’s family and friends. His death is a loss for them and for the country.

“It truly was an honor to work side-by-side with Jim to strengthen gun safety laws. I will never forget my interactions with Jim and Sarah during the 1993 debate over banning assault weapons. They provided strong support, and with their help we passed a law that saved lives.

“Jim and Sarah were instrumental in the passage of the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, known today simply as the Brady Bill. This groundbreaking law has kept guns out of the hands of more than 2 million convicted felons, domestic abusers and other dangerous individuals.

“The American people owe a debt of gratitude to Jim Brady for his service as President Reagan’s press secretary, where he sacrificed so much, and for his tireless work to reduce gun violence.”
