January 25, 2017 - The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has located four credit card skimming machines at two local gas stations in the Mariposa Town mariposa county sheriff logoarea. These elaborate skimmers were located at the Stage Stop Gas Station and the Chevron Gas Station.

The sophisticated skimmers were equipped with bluetooth technology, allowing the  scammer to drive by the machine, upload the credit card information, print a new debit card in their car and drive straight to the bank and withdraw money from the ATM machine. Investigators have checked all gas stations in the county and no additional skimmers were located.

So far we have had reports of 15 people finding fraudulent charges on their bank accounts. If you have used the gas pumps at either of those gas stations between December 2016 and January 23, 2017 please contact your bank and request a new card, even if you have not seen fraudulent charges your information could still be compromised.

This case has been forwarded to the Secret Service for review.
