This year, Sierra Art Trails 16th Annual Yosemite Foothills Open Studio Tour will be a little different up here on Stumpfield Mountain, Mariposa. I’m proud to have local artist and neighbor, Ann Hart, exhibiting her lovely sculptured art with me in my new Black Oaks Art Studio, (built two years ago). Phone: 209-966-2071
Sierra Art Trails opens: October: Friday 5th, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th; Hours: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. A $20 catalog with artists and maps is available at selected retail locations. Order by phone at 559-658-8844, or on the web at SierraaArtTrails.org. Our number on the orange signs is #84 & #85.
Ann Hart: I use clay sourced and processed in Mariposa where bits of mica and gold dust, washed down from the Sierra over the eons, can be seen in my sculptures. My subjects are wildlife. I also enjoy sculpting bears, cougars, river otters, and others animals found in the Sierra Nevada. “The essence of the Sierra is in every piece,” Ann says.

Vicki D. Thomas: I will be showing my collections of Yosemite paintings, landscapes, woodland animals, and florals. I’m known to have an attraction for painting children and for fantasy and whimsical themes. For this reason, you may find little fairies nestled in among the flowers, or having tea on the petals of a daisy.
My favorite medium is watercolor for its transparency and ethereal wash quality. Not long ago, I added acrylic to my palette, appreciating the creamy richness and the brilliance of the colors.
The medium is especially good for painting landscapes. I also have an intriguing display of Alcohol Ink paintings on the east wall of my art studio.
