Release of the Environmental Assessment begins 30-day public comment period

June 9, 2021 - PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — The Bureau of Land Management Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office proposes to offer mineral materials for competitive sale. The subsurface 119-acre site is blm logolocated approximately four miles north of the community of Lakeside in San Diego County.

“California’s public lands provide opportunities for the development and production of mineral resources,” said Tim Gilloon, BLM Palm Springs-South Coast Field Manager. “Today’s release of the draft Environmental Assessment on the Slaughterhouse Canyon Mineral Material Sale begins a 30-day public comment period closing on July 6 and provides an opportunity for meaningful public input.”

Successful bidders would be required to submit detailed mining plans to BLM for approval. Additional environmental review would be conducted to analyze the site-specific impacts described in the plans.

The draft Environmental Assessment is available on ePlanning at https://go.usa.gov/xsRTf. The public is encouraged to provide comments through ePlanning or by email to Brandon Anderson at bganderson@blm.gov.
