July 30, 2021 - Merced –The Merced Police Department reports Merced police officers were dispatched to 742 N. St. (Mt. Pisgah A.M.E Zion Church) for a report of a suspect vandalizing the church. The witness, watched as Alejandro Pimentel,23, destroyed a telephone box and began pulling wires from the building. The witness followed Mr. Pimentel as he went through an alleyway, striking the sideview mirror of a vehicle, causing no damage. He then damaged a light at 1010 ‘M’ St. where he pulled out a light fixture from a stone pillar. The witness provided a description of Mr. Pimentel and he was located by Officer Gaona in the 1100 block of ‘M’ St. minutes later. The witness positively identified Mr. Pimentel as the suspect and he was then taken into custody. He was booked at the Merced County Jail for tampering with phone lines and vandalism.
