December 27, 2022 - The Monterey County Sheriff's Office reports on December 19, 2022, just before 7:00 pm, a truck driver was on break in the 29000 block of Spence Road in the unincorporated area of mcsd1227Salinas. The alert truck driver called 9-1-1 to report a female was bleeding and laying on the ground. Fire and AMR arrived shortly after and the female was transported to Natividad Medical Center for treatment. A short time later, Natividad Medical Center reported to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office the female had suffered from a significant sexual assault and had severe injuries, including blood loss, which required surgery. Deputies responded to the scene and worked to preserve and collect evidence.

In the early morning hours of December 20, 2022, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division took over the investigation and secured the crime scene for further processing. During the course of the investigation, 43-year-old Jesus Uribe of Gonzales was contacted and became a person of interest in the violent assault.

Detectives worked throughout the following days collecting evidence, serving multiple search warrants, gathering surveillance video from surrounding businesses and interviewing several witnesses including the victim. Detectives determined Uribe violently attacked and sexually assaulted the victim leaving her with life threatening injuries.

Uribe was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail on charges of Attempted Murder, Kidnapping with Intent to Commit a Rape, Penetration with a Foreign Object and others. Uribe’s bail was set at $1,350,000.

Anyone with information about Jesus Uribe, or anyone who drove through Spence Road on 12/19/2022 between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm is encouraged to call Detective Christian Zarate at 831-755-3809 or Detective Sergeant David Vargas at 831-755-3771.

UPDATE - 620pm: We originally did not post a photo of Uribe due to Detectives not having the opportunity to take his photo in the field during the investigation. We have since added his official booking photo due to the violet nature of his crimes per Assembly Bill 1475.
