March 14, 2023 - San Bernardino County Sheriff Department officials report that on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at approximately 1:57 a.m., a deputy with the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station, 
observed a vehicle driven by a 34-year-old man known to have an outstanding arrest warrant. The deputy attempted a traffic stop and after initially yielding, the suspect fled, leading deputies on a pursuit. The pursuit ended when the suspect drove onto a dead-end road and exited his vehicle. A lethal force encounter occurred, and the suspect was struck by gunfire. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division responded. Pursuant to Assembly Bill 1506, the Department of Justice (DOJ) was contacted and assumed the investigation.
