April 21, 2023 – Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that on April 20, 2023, at about 7:35 a.m., deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff Station were dispatched to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 1700 block of S. Santa Fe Ave., San Jacinto. Upon arrival, deputies found a deceased female with multiple sharp force injuries inside the apartment. Deputies also detained a male subject in front of the apartment.

The area was secured as a crime scene and station investigators responded to begin the investigation. The Central Homicide Unit also responded and assumed the investigation. This case was determined to be a domestic violence incident. The female victim was identified as Ruth Liera, 71-year-old, and the male suspect was identified as the victim’s husband, Lorenzo Liera, 70-year-old, both residents of San Jacinto. Lorenzo Liera was arrested for murder and booked at the Cois Byrd Correctional Facility.
