May 2, 2023 - Riverside County Sheriff Office officials report that on May 1, 2023, at 4:02 A.M., a San Jacinto Sheriff Deputy was flagged down on San Jacinto Avenue near Seventh Street RCSO Salgadoregarding a possible traffic collision involving a pedestrian. Deputies located a male subject, unconscious, with obvious head injuries. They began life saving measures and continued until Cal-Fire arrived. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The vehicle that struck the subject had fled the scene prior to deputies responding. The San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Deputies located several surveillance cameras on neighboring businesses with views of the roadway that captured the collision. Subsequently, the vehicle and driver were located several blocks away. Damage on the vehicle was consistent with a pedestrian impact. The driver, Juan Rodriguez Salgado (pictured), a 32-year-old resident of San Jacinto, was taken into custody and booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility for the Hit and Run.

The collision investigation required the temporary closure of San Jacinto Avenue from Seventh Street to Shaver Avenue but has since been reopened.
