SDPD and the FBI San Diego Field Office Arrest Suspect in Bank Robbery Series
May 7, 2023 – San Diego – San Diego Police Department officials report that they have arrested a suspect in connection to a series of take-over-style bank robberies. From May 23, 2019, through November 8, 2022, detectives linked at least four bank robberies as part of a series.
5/23/19 - San Diego County Credit Union at 1875 Center Drive in Escondido
11/27/19 – California Coast Credit Union at 9825 Mira Mesa Boulevard in San Diego
12/10/21 - California Bank at Trust at 8252 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard in San Diego
11/8/22 - California Bank and Trust at 2501 Palomar Airport Road in Carlsbad
In each of these incidents, armed men entered and took over the bank, acted violently toward staff, and stole cash. On May 1st, nearly four years after the first case, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for suspect Larry Lightning.
On May 3rd, Lightning was arrested at a Moreno Valley home by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office (RSO) with the assistance of SWAT.
