Death Investigation
May 18, 2023 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on May 16, 2023, Sheriff's Homicide investigators were notified 71-year-old Maximillian Aguirre, an individual in Sheriff's custody, passed away at Tri-City Hospital around 3:00 p.m. Aguirre had extensive medical issues unrelated to his incarceration, and had been hospitalized since March 29, 2023. We extend our sympathies to the Aguirre family and those affected by his death. A Sheriff's Family Liaison Officer will support the family as they deal with the loss of a loved one.
Aguirre was arrested on December 16, 2021, by the Fugitive Task Force and booked into Sheriff's custody. The charges were 4 counts of 288.7(b) PC- Oral Copulation Victim Under 10 Years of Age and 11 counts of 288(B)(1) PC- Lewd Lascivious Acts w/ Child Under 14 Years of Age with Force/etc. Aguirre resided in Spring Valley at the time of his arrest.
The Citizen's Law Enforcement Review Board (CLERB) was notified of this incident.
As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the Sheriff's Homicide Unit will conduct a thorough investigation. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office.
