May 19, 2023 - San Diego – San Diego Police Department officials report that on March 4, 2023, at approximately 6:09 a.m., the San Diego Police Communications Center received a call from a concerned citizen reporting a male who had been shot. The male was reported to have been lying in the street of the 1700 block of Cactus Road in the Otay Mesa neighborhood of San Diego. Officers from the Southern Division were dispatched immediately and arrived within minutes. Upon arriving, they found a male lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Officers performed life saving measures until Paramedics from San Diego Fire-Rescue arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital. The victim’s injuries were severe, however his condition stabilized for several weeks. Unfortunately, the male’s condition eventually deteriorated and on May 16, 2023, the male died from complications related to this shooting.

On May 17, 2023, San Diego Police Homicide Detectives assumed responsibility for the investigation of the shooting death of this male. Detectives are in the process of reviewing evidence collected during the preliminary investigation and are attempting to locate and interview any possible witnesses to this incident. At this point in the investigation, there is little known about the circumstances surrounding the precipitating event that led to the shooting death of this male.

There is no physical description of the suspect(s) at this time. The deceased male has been identified as Daniel Flores of San Diego. He is described as a 27-year-old Hispanic male.
