May 21, 2023 - San Diego Police Department officials report they are pleased to report that Jimmy the Pug has been safely reunited with his family after an unforeseen incident.
Details remain somewhat hazy about how Jimmy found himself in the company of a man unknown to his family. When confronted, the man in possession of Jimmy seemed to believe he had stumbled upon a canine jackpot, suggesting an exchange of Jimmy for cash.
As nearby Southeastern Division patrol officers were alerted, the man quickly relocated Jimmy to the family's vehicle before attempting a hasty retreat. His attempted escape, however, was curtailed by an ill-timed encounter with a fence.
Upon being detained, a handgun fell from his clothing. In a further twist, he attempted to give officers a false name, perhaps hoping for a stroke of good luck.
Thanks to our officers' reliable mobile fingerprinting technology, his true identity was quickly uncovered. Far from being a random individual, he turned out to be a convicted felon, wanted in Portland, Oregon, for double attempted murder.
The man is now facing new charges, including being a convicted person possessing a firearm, possessing stolen property, committing a felony while armed, providing false identification to a peace officer, and the outstanding warrant from Portland.
As he awaits extradition to face his charges, we are relieved that Jimmy is safe and sound, back where he belongs.
