Attempt Murder / Robbery / Assault with a Deadly Weapon Arrest

May 24, 2023 - Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on May 22, 2023, at 6:05 P.M., Thermal Station patrol units responded to the 51200 block of Douma riverside county sheriff logoStreet, in the city of Coachella, reference to an attempt murder. The investigation revealed a Black male juvenile robbed a 17-year-old Hispanic male juvenile at gunpoint. The juvenile reported the incident to his parents, who responded to the area and found the suspect sitting in his vehicle. The victim’s parents attempted to take photographs of the suspect vehicle and the suspect to report the information to law enforcement. An argument ensued, and the suspect opened fire on the victim’s vehicle, striking the 34-year-old Hispanic female Coachella resident, and her 14-year-old son. A family member drove the victims, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, to a local hospital. The suspect and his juvenile passenger fled the scene on foot. No other injuries were reported. The investigation was assumed by the Thermal Station Special Investigations Unit.

During the investigation, the suspect was positively identified as a 16-year-old Black male juvenile of Indio. The Special Investigations Unit located the suspect in the 83300 block of Flamingo Avenue in the City of Indio. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. A search warrant was served at the suspect’s residence and a loaded firearm was located. The passenger of the suspect vehicle has not been located or identified.

The suspect was booked into Juvenile Hall, for attempt murder, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon.
