Possession of a Loaded Assault Rifle Arrest 

May 25, 2023 - Ventura County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on May 18, 2023, West County Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) detectives were conducting directed enforcement on known subjects who are on probation with probation search terms.
 
During this operation, Special Enforcement Unit detectives, contacted Salvador Aguilar at the 200 block of Louisiana Place, in Oxnard.
 
Detectives conducted a search of Aguilar’s person and property pursuant to his probation search term conditions. During the search, detectives located a loaded .223 caliber short barrel assault rifle “ghost gun”, an extended magazine and various rounds of ammunition. Due to Aguilar’s previous criminal history, he is prohibited from owning and possessing firearms and ammunition.
 
As a result of the investigation, detectives learned the loaded assault rifle was not properly secured and easily accessible to other small children residing at the residence. Detectives arrested Aguilar for being in possession of an assault rifle, possession of a short-barrel rifle, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of a manufactured firearm not properly registered, criminal storage of a firearm and child endangerment. Aguilar was booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Facility.
 
On May 22, 2023, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office filed felony charges against Aguilar. Aguilar remains in custody on $60,000 bail.
 
The West County Special Enforcement Unit is comprised of eight detectives, whose focus is assisting patrol services with the investigation of various crimes including, but not limited to, the investigation of illegal firearms.
