Death Investigation
June 1, 2023 - Ventura County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on May 30, 2023, at approximately 6:58 P.M., the Ventura County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a 911 call from a male subject who requested deputies respond to a residence located in the 2300-block of Chiquita Lane in the City of Thousand Oaks regarding a possible suicide.
Deputies assigned to the Thousand Oaks Police Department responded and located one unresponsive adult male and one unresponsive male juvenile at the location. The adult male was pronounced dead at the scene. The male juvenile was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The two decedents were identified as father and son and both were associated to the residence.
Detectives assigned to the Sheriff’s Major Crimes and East County Major Crimes Units responded to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the property. An investigator from the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and, in coordination with detectives, completed a scene investigation. The adult male was identified as (S) Blaine Paddock.
The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted autopsies on both Paddock and the male juvenile. The cause of death for Paddock was ligature strangulation and the manner is suicide. The cause of death for the male juvenile was strangulation and the manner is homicide. Detectives do not believe there are any outstanding suspects relating to the deaths. This investigation is ongoing.
